In memory of Ebony Michelle Sheppard

My niece, Ebony Michelle Sheppard, a beautiful, 31-year-old mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend, was murdered on December 26, 2017 by a gun-wielding young kid with an ankle monitor on his leg. This monitor is what allowed the police to find him quickly.

My niece was going to get into her car in an apartment parking lot when she was shot in the back of her head.

Ebony was beautiful inside and out. She would go out of her way to help another person.

Ebony loved animals and insects but mostly she loved her son and her family. Ebony was an artist; she was wonderfully talented in many creative art styles. She was a tiny bit shy, with a big, beautiful smile followed by little snicker.

Being my first niece, I probably spoiled her the most, and then, when Ian came along, they were a double joy.

I miss her with all of my heart. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think of Ebony. Sometimes I cry, but most of the time, lately, I think of her and I just smile.

My entire family misses her, but Ian misses his mother even more.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
