Andrea S.

Two of my friends and I were robbed at gunpoint in 2005 as we were walking to another friend’s house, late at night. After I refused to give my purse, the perpetrator pulled a .22 and pursued us as we ran on foot. Two of us hid behind parked cars as our other friend was shot in the thigh. The man with the gun turned and ran. We rode with our friend to the hospital that night. He escaped life-threatening injury but was informed by one of the nurses that a man had died earlier in the night from a gunshot wound in the same spot (near the femoral artery). That night changed our lives forever. We share a weird kind of traumatic bond. I believe my friend saved my life that night.
