When I was in the 10th grade, my classmate and friend Rachel ended her life with a gun that had been left unsecured in her home. I have been dedicated to suicide intervention and gun violence prevention ever since. It is why I trained to be a BeSMART presenter. I want to help all adults remember to secure their guns in homes and vehicles; model responsible behavior with guns; ask about guns in other homes; recognize the risk of teen suicide, and tell other adults to be SMART.
