total hearts received for Moments That Survive

The Fourth of July was my Dad’s favorite holiday. Every year we had a wonderful party filled with family, fun and fireworks. These are some of the very best memories of my life. I can’t even imagine what he would have thought of the tragedy that transpired in Highland Park, Illinois.

I have never been a fan of guns. It just wasn’t my thing. When I personally saw the aftermath of a “good guy with a gun” killed by a gun, I became anti-gun. My Dad, whom I loved and admired, died by suicide, and I was the only one in my family who saw him. I know it was the right choice because it has haunted me for years. I could not have burdened anyone I love with that image, which is seared in my memory.

I’m not sure why I’m sharing this except to say that I am absolutely done with guns. In addition, I’m absolutely done with people not supporting the mental health of our “good guys with guns.” Something has to change, and I’m absolutely sure that the change does not involve more guns.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
