Karrington Len Jade Smith was shot and killed on Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Baton Rouge on Siegen Lane. She was 17 years old and 26 weeks pregnant with her first child, Dallas Layne Husser. While riding in the car with friends, Jade was sitting in the front passenger seat. Another person was sitting in the back seat, directly behind her. He states that as he was repositioning his weapon in its holster, he accidentally squeezed the trigger. The bullet traveled through the seat, and Jade was hit in the back. She was rushed to the hospital where she and Baby Dallas were pronounced dead.
Jade was such a joy. She made friends every where she went. She was a junior volunteer firefighter in her hometown for many years, where her dad has been the chief of the department for over 14 years. Jade was homeschooled and worked very hard to finish high school before her son was due in June of 2022. The day after they were killed, we found out that she had passed her final tests and graduated high school. Jade wasn’t able to know that everything she worked for, she accomplished.
