It has been over two years since I was sitting in my car, outside of a post office shop, when a bullet came across a six-lane highway, a block away, and blew out two of the back windows of my car, missing my head by three feet. The trauma resulted in PTSD and multiple physical problems, including a stroke.
I AM thankful for the help of EMDR and creative therapies, HeartMath meditation, and support of family and friends.
Knowing what I have experienced by this close call, I have great compassion for others who have been present to the gun violence in our country and for the families and friends who also experience their trauma.
There is a great need for recognition of the long-term effects of gun violence resulting in mental trauma, and for even greater acceptance of people’s need for therapeutic interventions to restore peace in our world.
