I just got home from the courthouse about an hour ago. I was attending a sentence hearing for the murderer of my 15-year-old nephew. He was involved in a prison riot while serving time for the shooting of my godson and nephew. A stolen handgun was the instrument he used to take our beloved Leo Travers on January 12, 2017. They added a year to his sentence for his involvement in the riot. He will be eligible for parole in January 2020.
Meanwhile, my devastated family is still picking up the pieces of such a promising life cut short to gun violence. Leo deserved better. I never thought such tragedy would be inflicted on my family. If you think this can’t happen to your family, think again. It can!
