Hi, I’m Brittany, I’m 25 now, but at the time I was assaulted I was 24. It’s been almost a year since it happened, and I’m still affected everyday. Whether I’m pulling pieces of bullet fragments out of one of the wounds or I’m lying in bed, I’m reminded everyday of what happened.
I was driving home from work when I noticed a truck that was two vehicles behind me, driving into oncoming traffic. I slowed down, but it wasn’t enough. Before I knew it, the truck driver was slamming on their brakes in front of me. I rear-ended the truck at 10 to 15 mph, and before I could process my very first car accident, nine bullets were unloaded into my car. I was hit seven times throughout my right arm, right side, and chest.
I spent 22 days in the hospital, and now, almost a year later, I’m still not healed. I’m still suffering, I’m still traumatized, but I’m fighting and sharing my story to help end gun violence.
