You already have your phone in your hand, so go ahead and Google me. May 21, 2021 … “Miami Gardens woman shot multiple times,” “Miami Gardens woman airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center,” “Restraining order violation leads to early morning shooting” … All of the major networks ran my story.

It all seems so surreal. It feels like they’re talking about someone else, until I take a step …

I don’t know a day without pain since that Friday morning when my live-in boyfriend unloaded a Glock 40 into my body as I sat on the sofa, listening to the many police sirens blaring, praying that they would reach me before he killed me. It was the third time that I had called the Miami Gardens Police Department in less than 24 hours to report that he was there, in violation of my restraining order. The first two times I called, he left before they arrived, but not this time. He had left the apartment after yet another argument, but he hadn’t gone far. He had got one of his four weapons from one of our five vehicles in the parking lot. He shot me eight times and my life has never been the same.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
