Cameron Shemar Kates

In memory of Cameron Kates

My son, Cameron Kates, was murdered on March 27, 2021. The person who took his life is claiming self-defense, even though there was no weapon found on my son or near the crime scene. My family has struggled since Cameron’s passing.

Cameron was 19 when he took his last breath. He was a freshman at Kentucky State University and was preparing to play basketball for them. He was home due to COVID.

His older brother was 20 at the time, and they were very close. We have had to change the way we do everything. Without the help from my church, counseling and Mother’s of Murdered Columbus Children, I’m not sure where I would be right now. I could not save his life, but I can honor him in his death, and that’s what I am doing.
