Carolina Barragan

Hello, I am a 35-year-old woman and the mother of four beautiful children. I work in the health care profession and am from San Diego, California, but I reside in Oregon. I am a gun violence survivor.

On June 6, 2020, I was shot five times by my husband and the father of my children while I sat in my car. I was struck in the chest, stomach, breast, arm and face. I remember sitting in my car, and the next thing I knew, I heard a loud ring, and everything was moving very slowly. After the third shot, I laid my head on the steering wheel and played dead. I watched my kids’ father take his own life with the same gun he shot me with. After he fell, I got a burst of energy and ran out of my car for help.

I was taken by Life Flight to a hospital, where I woke up three days later on life support. I wasn’t able to eat solid food for three months and was wired shut. I now have seizures from all the trauma and suffer from anxiety, depression and PTSD! Gun violence lost!

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
