Claire Petillo

In memory of Christian Petillo Heartitude

Christian was a loving, smart, generous, gregarious, sports-loving 15 year old. He had an infectious smile, boisterous laugh and loved playing baseball, ice hockey, and golf with such passion. He was the pesky younger brother to his siblings, but a loving, nurturing uncle to his young niece who was, in essence, more of another sibling.

Christian was the youngest of our three children, my rainbow baby, after a stillbirth. He was my ray of sunshine. On September 5, 2021 he went to a sleepover at another boy’s home and never made it home. The boy had brought out a loaded gun; it went off hitting Christian in the chest, killing him.

The loss of Christian within the family has been catastrophic. His father, Bruce, and I are putting pain and grief into purpose by working to pass a gun safety bill, Christian’s Law, in Arizona to make sure no other family has to feel the pain of child loss due to irresponsible gun ownership. We will continue to fight for safe gun storage in Christian’s honor on state and national levels. We love and miss you so much Christian. Forever 15. Ohana means family, and family is forever!
