In 2005, returning from church, my mother was robbed and then shot in the back at close range with a .45. She was two weeks shy of her 80th birthday. Hours of emergency trauma surgery and weeks in the ICU on life support saved her life, but it took many months of recovery for her to return to a reasonably normal life. She died of unrelated causes, seven years later. I recently found out that the man who shot her had shot, and in some cases killed, others and was, after all these years, sentenced to prison. As long as I live I will support putting controls on who has access to guns and what guns they can have access to. Nobody should have to go through what my mother experienced.
