My brother, Daniel “Dan” Sanders, was murdered on September 22, 2024. He was riding his motorcycle when three individuals—fueled by vengeance and false assumptions—got in a car, followed him, and ended his life in a senseless act of violence.
Dan was more than what happened to him. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and brother. A builder who helped construct homes, businesses, even the Ronald McDonald House in Albany. He built Michael Jordan’s golf course—and MJ gave him a set of clubs in thanks. He was also a talented airbrush and tattoo artist, a dog lover, and the kind of man who’d give you the shirt off his back.
Dan lived with grit and heart. He was taken with cruelty and cowardice.
Now we carry his memory forward—through grief, through courtrooms, through every act of love and truth-telling. His absence is felt in every family gathering, every birthday his grandchildren celebrate without him. There’s a space no one else can fill.
Dan deserved to grow old. His grandkids deserved more time. We all did.
We will never forget him. We will never stop fighting for justice.
