In memory of Lynda Lashon Hallums

My mother was a beacon of strength, though her light was often hidden behind the shadow of fear. On July 18, 1993, her life was stolen by the man she once trusted. But her story is not defined by that dark day — it is defined by her courage. She endured years of abuse in silence, but deep within, she found the strength to break free. The moment she decided to leave, she chose life, dignity, and love for herself and her children. Her bravery was her final gift to us. Though her journey was cut short, her spirit lives on in every moment of courage I carry forward. She taught me that no matter how dark the world becomes, there is always hope — always strength within. Today, I honor her by living in that light, and by remembering her not for the tragic and violent way she died, but for the way she fought to reclaim her life.
