As a mother, I devoted my life to giving my three sons a good start by providing a loving home in a safe neighborhood. I chose schools so they’d get a solid education. I took them to church every week to steep them in Christian values.
In 2012, my middle son Peter inexplicably turned the gun he had bought for “protection” on himself, ending his life at the age of 25.
Now my consuming passion and purpose in life is to bring awareness to the increased risk of suicide for all with access to a gun in the home. I strive every day to foster understanding and show compassion for those who struggle with mental illness or face an overwhelming crisis but, due to stigma, do not ask for help.
