I was held up at gunpoint in a store robbery. To say that I was scared doesn’t begin to describe the experience. It was terrifying and something that you feel with your body and nerves the rest of your life. Your brain almost can’t process the fear. That kind of near-death experience, that trauma, never leaves you. And I was lucky — I wasn’t shot.
