The tragedy began with a phone call from the police. “There has been an accident. You need to come to the hospital RIGHT AWAY.” When I got to the hospital, expecting a car accident, I found out it was a gunshot wound to the chest. After an hour of starting his heart over again multiple times, he finally gave up. Now my 19-year-old is in heaven…instead of here with me! I did get to say “I love you” one last time while he was still with us, but his sister (his closest friend) did not. Our lives were forever changed at that moment. We were forced to create a new normal without Trevor here on Earth. The absolute worst thing a parent can experience is the death of a child.
