total hearts received for Moments That Survive

Isis Cameron

Hello, I’m here to share my story on how I myself survived being wounded due to gun violence. So it all started the day of June 30, 2011. It was a normal day, as any day. I was 15 years old. It was me, my brother, and about four to five other friends. We were hanging out, ya know, doing things that kids do. We decided to go back to my house to chill out. It was at nighttime, around say 10-11 o’clock.

My mother was at work and me and my brother were the only two that occupied the residence. One of kids that was there with us in the friend group proceeded to obtain a handgun and play with it — resulting in him shooting me in my chest a half-inch from my heart. It deflated my right lung and broke three of my ribs on the right side. By the grace of God, I I made it. It changed me because I realized that my life could be taken at any moment by anyone. I treasure my life so much differently now.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
