My son Justice was murdered one week after his 17th birthday in a public high school parking lot right after a boys varsity basketball game. Thousands of high school teenagers were present in the parking lot when my son was struck by one bullet that took his young life. Losing my son so violently and so suddenly while at a public high school event on public school property haunts me every day. Nowhere feels safe for our children. Nowhere is protected from the horror and trauma of gun violence. A part of me died with my son that day.
Justice was a star athlete who loved football and had a bright future ahead of him. He loved his family and friends and had a robust desire to live life fully. His life was just beginning and tragically taken by senseless gun violence way too soon.
