On the evening of August 11, 2021, my wife and I were giving an associate of ours a ride. We picked her up down the road — as well as her “little sister,” who we didn’t know was coming — and started driving. We weren’t introduced. After a little while driving, her “little sister” asked us to pull over somewhere, so she could go to the bathroom. We pulled right over to a grocery store nearby, and she and our associate got out together, walking into the store, while we were parked out front, waiting on them.

One minute after they went inside, we were approached by a young woman and man. She aggressively asked where her cousin was and told us that the “little sister” in our car had called her, saying we had kidnapped her. She also told us that we had been followed for 30 minutes. Our associate and she came out of the store, and we drove off, leaving “little sister” with them. We were then shot at in the store parking lot, and for the next five miles, leaving seven bullet holes in our car. I go shot in the leg, and my wife got grazed on her face. The case is still open.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
