Jill, her Mom

In honor of Jenna

We (my husband, daughter and I) were in Las Vegas to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from college. Jenna’s favorite country artist, Eric Church, was headlining one night of the multiday country concert. It was a great weekend, until the last day, around 10 p.m., when it started. We were being attacked by a man with an arsenal of guns and ammunition who was towering over the concert venue with his only objective to hurt and destroy. We ran. It was dark and confusing. The three of us knew we had to get away. We kept running. Stepping over wounded and dead along the way until we couldn’t run any more. We got to a barbed wire fence surrounding the airport. There was nowhere to go.

Jenna got shot. The bullet entered from the back on her left side. She was bleeding. She underwent emergency exploratory surgery looking for internal damage and bleeding. She was remarkably lucky; there was none. She spent a week in the hospital. She had to have physical therapy and ongoing counseling. She survived, but life will NEVER be the same.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
