Kanika was a beautiful 28-year-old woman when she was violently killed with a handgun inside the hallway of her apartment building in Prince George’s County. As a mother, you never want to receive that call that your daughter has been shot. I never would have imagined it in a thousand years. After 14 years, there is still no arrest in her case.
Nor could anyone close to her determine a motive. My heart aches for any parent who loses a child, but for especially one taken by gun violence because that did not have to happen. She was a kind, hard worker and Army vet who had a heart of gold. Her smile and laughter were contagious. She was single with no children, but she left behind her mother, stepfather, brother, sister and best friends. Kanika is forever in our heart.
