I was a graduate student at Virginia Tech during the 2007 massacre. I believe that this event has shaped my life and made me so fearful that gun violence will hurt my children. I know that it can happen anywhere, at any time. We lost 32 fellow students that day, and the grief that I carry with me every day is palpable. I had nightmares for months following the attacks and cannot imagine the pain that families go through with the loss of a loved one. I do not understand how our country keeps allowing this to happen over and over again.
