We (Jamese Hemsley and Kelly Jones) are the parents of Khalil (KK) Jones, who was fatally shot Thursday afternoon on 11/17/22 along the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue SE, a commercial strip near Congress Heights.
We are devastated by the senseless violence that took Khalil away from us. Our family, his children, and friends, as well as so many others, are still struggling with this tragedy. I want the world to know and remember our son wasn’t just another young black 26-year-old man who was shot and killed. He was a loving, joyful, intellectual, generous, and compassionate father who liked to laugh and make others laugh as well.
As a family, we mourn the loss of our son, feeling such unbearable pain that life almost seems unbearable to us. However, we must remain strong for the sake of the grandkids and strive to reform our gun laws.
It is time for a change for KK and all those affected by gun violence. Too many lives have been lost and too many communities have been destroyed as a result of gun violence.
