My beautiful friend took her own life eight years ago. She was 36. She was smart, funny, independent… always the strong one, with the best advice when you needed it. She was struggling the week before, and we emailed back and forth. I tried to give her the same sound advice I knew she would give to me. She needed to get away for a while, and I invited her to visit. That was Friday. On Sunday, she made a split-second decision and purchased a firearm – same day – and ended her life with it. What would have happened if she had to wait the weekend before buying it? Those two or three days may have made all the difference.
The pain of not knowing will never go away.
