total hearts received for Moments That Survive

Kylie Valim

On the day of the Stoneman Douglas Shooting, all schools in South Florida got a shooting threat. Schools went into code red, including mine. We stayed hiding for about two hours. Nobody knew what was going on. My heart raced. As a fourth grader, I was terrified.

Later, when school was over, my mom picked me up, and I was crying. I had a panic attack. My mom told me what happened at the high school, and I was only 20 minutes away from it. Children shouldn’t have to panic or worry about their safety. Now, as a freshman in high school, I still worry, ’til this day, that eventually, someone will bring a gun to school.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
