Love Mama Bird

In memory of Anthony “T-Bird” Mobley

On April 30, 2017, I got a phone call from my 17 year old saying he had been shot and needed my help. I rushed to him. He was shot in the back of his shoulder blade and the bullet exited out his chest. I raced to him. It was 4 a.m.

I found him and rushed him to the hospital. He was crying out to me, and I just wanted him to relax. Come to find out my 19 year old was with him and had been shot as well. He didn’t make it. I about died myself when I found out. I was in disbelief: There’s no way I drove by my son and left him to die! But when he got shot six times in the back, his last words to his brother were “Run!”

I was battling life and death at that moment.

Why would this young man empty his clip on my boys? Tony was a father of an 18-month-old girl. He was a working man; he was fully involved in his daughters life. He was reliable, he loved cutting hair, dancing and making people laugh. I miss him so much.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
