My 11-year-old nephew was playing with his friend at the friend’s grandfather’s home. The grandfather had unsecured guns in a gun case, and the boys were handling one when it discharged. The bullet hit my nephew in the upper abdomen. There was too much damage, and Jeremy only lived a few hours after surgery. Words can’t adequately express the pain and sorrow our family suffers over losing him. Please, if you must have guns in your home, make sure they are secured in a gun safe and out of the reach of curious children. Prevention is the best way to prevent such horrific tragedies. The pain of losing a child never goes away.
