My name is Melice Morgan Jones. I am the Mother of Derambez Morgan, my firstborn and only son, who was only 26 years old when he was murdered by a senseless act of gun violence on November 20, 2020, at work, by a co-worker in Iman, South Carolina, on Bomar Street. My son Derambez Morgan was working when a coworker shot him in the back and killed him for no justified reason at all. My son did not survive the gun violence and died that night. This senseless act of violence has brought me, his mother, his family and friends so much heartbreak. My son Derambez Morgan was an amazing and loving young man with a big heart, beautiful smile, contagious laughter and bright future, with family and friends who loved him dearly.
The man responsible for the death of my son, Derambez Morgan, was charged with first-degree murder on the evening of the murder, at the scene of the crime, on November 20, 2020. On January 21, 2023, the trial for my son’s first degree murder case took place in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This is legal justice; however, it does not bring my son’s, Derambez Morgan’s, life back to his family.
