My family and my lives changed on April 15, 2013.
We lost a father, brother, first grandson, nephew and so much more due to a senseless act of violence.
I remember the day like yesterday: My nephew was at my house 20 minutes before he was killed.
He had his last conversation with my daughter, telling her, “I’m going to pick up my car and come right back.”
He was always making others laugh at his many jokes, and that’s something my family and I will cherish forever.
Ismail would have been celebrating his 30th birthday this Christmas.
Each year has been a little easier for our family, and we thank God for his loving arms that he places around us daily.
My family and I stand strong against gun violence and will share our story always.
