My name is Rudy Milton. I’m a gun violence survivor MOM. My beloved son, Dominique, was tragically murdered by senseless gun violence. He was only 17! I love and miss Dominique … there are no words to describe my pain. He was my only child.
Dominique was a charismatic, funny, handsome young man. He LOVED music and was a gifted drummer. Playing the drums was his passion. His passion for drumming exuded EVERYTIME he played! He wanted to be a professional drummer. His entire life was ahead of him. Dominique was only 17! He had dreams, goals and aspirations. His smile and energy would light up a room. He had a beautiful, contagious smile. He was a friend to thousands, a big brother, nephew and a God-fearing young man. He enjoyed playing at different venues and especially at church. I miss him saying, “Mama I’m going to make them shout today!” I said, “I know you are, son.” I’m so blessed and grateful to be Dominique’s mother. On his drumsticks says DRUMS IS MY LIFE. He worked very hard at his craft. He loved to play basketball and football. He loved his friends and family!! Dominique is dearly missed. I will NEVER GIVE UP carrying out his legacy.
I started a scholarship fund in memory of Dominique. I wanted to be able to give back the opportunity to the community. Dominique’s Musician Corner Scholarship Fund was started in 2016. We have been fortunate enough to give away two scholarships. Although this is a tragic experience, I’m so humbled to be able to support the youth in our community. The joy and excitement on a youth’s face is priceless! This opportunity brings joy to my heart. Dominique would not want it any other way. It is my mission to ensure Dominique’s legacy will forever live on!
