N. Xavier Johnson

In memory of N. Xavier Johnson

On June 8, 2022, Xavier Johnson responded to his girlfriend’s text message about her best friend being threatened by her ex-boyfriend. Her ex had told the girl that when he got off work that night, he was coming over, and he would gut her. Xavier and two of his friends went over to her house to keep watch.

Just as the man had threatened, he pulled down her street and cut off the lights to his vehicle. As he stopped his vehicle at the end of their driveway, Xavier walked up and told him to leave. He then shot Xavier and left him in the street to die. Xavier’s friends called 911. The EMS arrived but would not get out to help Xavier, fearful of the possibility that the shooter was still there.

His friend talked to him and begged him not to die. He tried to perform CPR … Once Spartanburg County sheriff deputies finally arrived, the EMS finally got out to “help” Xavier. They took him to Spartanburg Regional Hospital, although Prisma in Greenville was closer. Xavier was declared dead after midnight. Xavier was only 18 years old and had just graduated high school.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
