My brother almost lost his life one Easter morning when he was shot by a stranger in Atlanta, Georgia.
I remember the surreal feeling of visiting him at Grady Hospital. I remember seeing the bloody bandages on his neck and simultaneously being shocked that something like this had happened and grateful the bullet did not kill or maim him.
Now I volunteer with Moms Demand Action to help prevent gun violence. I pray every day when my son goes to school that he comes home alive. In 2018, in just 180 days of school, there were 23 shootings, resulting in 113 people being injured or killed in our country. I pray for the surviving friends, colleagues and family. I pray for a safer future.
