I was in 5th grade when I had my first life-threatening situation due to a gun. Earlier on this night, my uncle saw three men trying to steal things from our garage and went to confront them; they were yelling in a fit of rage and ran off.
That night I was sleeping in my bed, and at around 3 a.m., there was a gunshot through my bedroom wall from the outside. The bullet hit the wall and ricocheted less than a foot above my head. I woke up in terror, not knowing what was going on. I had never heard that sound in person before, but only on TV and movies. Never right there, so close that I can feel it.
My life was almost taken from me because three minors got their hands on a gun and decided to take their anger out on an innocent family, not knowing who they would hurt. A gun should never be accessible to minors and should never be categorized as a necessity.
