Preston Vinzant

Who deserves to live? Who deserves to die?

In America, are all men created equal? Are they endowed by their creator, with certain, inalienable rights? Among these: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

These rights were taken from my son, Preston, eight months ago when someone elected themself judge, jury and executioner after a verbal altercation in the middle of the street that my son lived and then died on. Unarmed and no physical threat. Only a war of words that left Preston dead, due to the ready availability of guns in Texas.

Preston suffered from mental illness and valiantly struggled to fit into society over the course of his life. He succeeded in so many ways. He was married and had two daughters who were the center of his world. He graduated from college with an electric certificate. He was a husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew and more. He deserved to live his life in peace and safety. Not hunted and shot dead.

These people walk among us. They live and work with you. They are members of our society who took away the one that I love. We can do better. Resist.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
