total hearts received for Moments That Survive

Richard L. Hart

I was in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, when I got a call no one ever wants to get. It was from my daughter, saying that there was an active shooter at my granddaughter’s high school in Santa Fe, Texas. That was May 18, 2018. Several hours later, I got another call that my granddaughter did not survive. She was just 14 years old — the youngest student to die that day. I flew to Texas as soon as I could. I was there to support my daughter and grandson. I stayed in Texas until mid November.

I’m now active with Moms Demand Action. I try to promote gun safety when ever possible. I only vote for political candidates that support gun reform. Something like this changes your life forever. If we all work together, we can get something done about gun violence in America today.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
