My mother and her brother/my uncle were murdered in 1991, when I was eight years old. They were shot and killed when her abusive ex-boyfriend broke into our home and waited for them to return home. Life is now segmented into before that day and after. Growing up without a mother has shaped who I am, in every facet of my life. It’s never the same again.
