Someone who was angry with my husband shot into our house while I was home with my son. Screaming for my little boy to get down and pressing ourselves to the floor while bullets roared within inches of us is a terror I will never forget. Because so many gun violence victims have lost so much more, it has taken me time to think of us as survivors and to realize that our story also deserves to be told. We don’t have physical wounds, but we are wounded. My work toward healing from gun violence is not just about healing my family, but about doing what I can to heal our country.
