You never expect these things to happen to you. You see the other high school names show up on the news, and everyone responds “thoughts and prayers.” I was sitting in my classroom, studying for a big exam coming up, and over the loudspeaker we are told we are going into a “hard lockdown.”
The student had an exact time, which was passing time. That’s the time where we go between classes. Everyone was in the hall. I’ll never forget the scared looks on everyone’s face. No one had headphones in or were talking. It was terrifying. This silence filled the building, just waiting, anticipating some sort of gunshot noise. No one fired that day. The next day, the same threat was announced. And then the day after that. I no longer feel safe going to school because who knows when that gun will be shot.
