I lost my daughter, Beanitta Dawkins, to relationship homicide one year ago. Since that moment, my life has changed, and I now advocate for other parents and survivors who lost a loved one to homicide. Beanitta was a mother, sister, aunt and daughter. I have been thrown back into becoming a parent of minor children all over again. Beanitta was the most uplifting, sassy, spirited 26-year-old who ever lived. She had a passion for knitting, and fashion was one of her best qualities besides motherhood. I will continue to make sure her light shines and that her death is not in vain.
