In memory of Roberta King

I will never forget the phone call from my brother, who had been waiting all day with his family as they brought survivors out of the building, saying that mom, wearing her white tennis sneakers, was not with the last group of survivors leaving the building.

She was killed teaching English as a Second Language to immigrants at the American Civic Center.

Everyday I wear the watch she was wearing, hoping her spirit that drew others to her lives on in a part of me.

Reacting shows support for gun violence survivors.
