My son, Wendell Bonner, was killed by gun violence on March 9, 2019, while driving home from a restaurant after spending time with family members. March 9 is the day my life ended as I knew it. My son was 30 years old, working towards his life’s dream. He was completing his last year before graduating from college with a BS in management and computer science, all while maintaining a full-time job. He has no kids to carry on, but his memory will live on through his family.
To have known my son was a blessing; his smile and demeanor was what I was always complimented on. He was a bit shy but loved spending time with his family and small group of friends. He always believed the quantity of friends didn’t matter, but the quality did.
My heart is forever broken, as his heart has given someone else a new life. (He had chosen to be an organ donor). Neither he nor I ever thought it would be this soon. As I always told him, “You are my favorite son (my only son).” Wenn, you will always be on my mind, in my thoughts, and in my heart. I love you.
